The Report Card

Beginning the Surrogacy Process in Georgia: A Personal Journey

A month after the egg retrieval, we received the long-anticipated “report card” for this step in the surrogacy process in Georgia. Of the 11 eggs retrieved, 8 fertilized successfully. Three embryos were sent for PGS testing, and one viable blastocyst made the cut. For many couples, this might seem disappointing, but for us, it was a hopeful milestone.

The Excitement of Progress

During an evening work call, I got a message from the clinic with the results. I quickly muted myself, dashed out of the room, and shared the news with R. While his initial reaction was confusion, his excitement matched mine as I explained. Though thrilled in the moment, I later felt a twinge of disappointment, knowing more embryos would increase our chances. However, we reminded ourselves of previous cycles where no blastocysts made it to testing.

Preparing for the Next Steps

With paperwork finally en route to Tbilisi, the process slowed as we awaited updates on surrogate mother availability. Factors like menstrual cycles and selection by other intended parents (IPs) often affect timing. Although eager to review profiles, our medical coordinator advised patience.

Reflecting on the Journey

Despite challenges, the surrogacy process in Georgia offers hope for many intended parents. This personal journey highlights resilience and the power of progress, no matter how small. In my next post, I’ll share why we chose Georgia for surrogacy and how it has shaped our path
