Welcome to “Sense & Surrogacy”.

Embarking on My Gestational Surrogacy Journey in Georgia

Hello, I’ll be turning 41 next month. This is my first time blogging, but I feel compelled to share my gestational surrogacy journey in Georgia. It’s been an emotional, complex journey, and I want to document it.

Legal Challenges in Surrogacy

A recent Italian law made it illegal for citizens to seek surrogacy services abroad, even in legal countries. This hit home for me. While surrogacy isn’t legal in most countries, this law felt extreme. Is surrogacy so controversial that it needs such drastic measures?

A Personal Struggle

The truth is, this issue struck me personally. My husband (let’s call him “R”) and I had just returned from Georgia (not the U.S. state). We finalized our gestational surrogacy agreement and made the first lump sum payments. I was still recovering from my 11th egg retrieval, bloated from the procedure, and dared to hope again after years of infertility, IVF, and pregnancy losses.

Facing Unexpected Fears

I read about the law and messaged R immediately: “Could you be jailed or fined?” The idea was shocking. I panicked, but R stayed calm. “Let’s focus on what matters,” he said. We had made sure our surrogacy process was legal. Now, everything felt uncertain.

Sharing My Journey

I’ve always been private, but I need to share my story. I hope this gives a different perspective on surrogacy and helps others considering this path. It’s been a long and lonely journey, but I’m ready for whatever comes next.

Bring it on.
